Reading to Dogs
" To enhance children's love of reading through the use of therapy animals and thus lay a foundation for a lifetime of learning."
The library at the Pat Anderson Education Center at the Home is the perfect setting for the "Reading to Dogs" program. On Friday afternoons from 3:00 - 4:00 pm children eagerly await their turn to read to their pet partners. This highly interactive , effective and motivational way of improving reading skills is one of the most popular programs at SCH. Children who are struggling with reading, social skills and difficult circumstances often find that interacitng with a dog creates a less intimidating, helpful and fun learning environment.
